Synopsis

The West End is home to a number of famous musicals based on some well known movies, from Billy Elliot the Musical to The Lion King they prove that these stories can find a new life onstage. This is also true for another movie-turned-musical that continues to run at the Savoy Theatre in the capital, where some well known names have appeared in the roles made famous by Reece Witherspoon, Matthew David, Selma Blair and Luke Wilson, amongst others. So the blockbuster show Legally Blonde, having opened at the Savoy in January 2010, continues to run strong and with no end in sight.

But then, why would audiences want to see an end to a show that proves that you can do anything that you put your mind to? It is a production that is likely to put a smile on the face of any theatregoer as the character of Elle Woods defies the odds and excels in an area no-one thought possible. Since it opened it has also featured the likes of Denise Van Outen, Siobhan Dillon, Carley Stenson, Richard Fleeshman, Simon Thomas, Duncan James, Sherdan Smith and Alex Gaumand, to name a few.

The plot of Legally Blonde the Musical mirrors the original Legally Blonde movie from 2001, with Elle Woods beginning the show in a happy relationship with Warner Huntington III and when he arranges a dinner date she is convinced that he is going to finally propose to her. But Elle is devastated when it transpires he is in fact breaking up with her, citing that he wants someone a little more serious as he embarks to college. Elle, however, is not one to take matters lying down and once she has pulled herself back together she decides to ditch the credit cards, pick up some library books and enrol on a degree course at Harvard Law, soon proving that she can make it and show Warner she can be as serious as the next girl.

The original movie would go on to spawn a sequel entitled Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, demonstrating the popularity of the story and with the West End version running strong it is proving that audiences cannot get enough of the determination of Elle Woods.

Legally Blonde the Musical continues at the Savoy Theatre and is currently booking well into 2011.
