Synopsis

When it comes the inspiring great West End musicals there are a wide variety of sources available to producers. Movies, for example, have provided the basis of shows such as Billy Elliot the Musical, Sister Act the Musical and Legally Blonde the Musical amongst others, whilst novels have been adapted into blockbuster shows such as Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera. Then there are famous bands like Queen and ABBA, which have provided the music for shows such as We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia!, creating a vibrant West End theatre scene. But there’s another show to add to that latter category, one that has been running at the Prince Edward Theatre since February 2008, and that takes the form of Jersey Boys, based on the story of the hit band The Four Seasons.

But whereas the likes of We Will Rock You feature an original story supported by the relevant music Jersey Boys instead provides audiences with insight into the actual journey the band took. As such we witness the rise and fall that Frankie Valli and his band mates embarked on in the 1960s, with many of their signature songs thrown in for good measure. As such, it is no wonder that audiences have been eager to witness the production ever since it first opened its doors.

Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons hailed from New Jersey and began with Valli attempting to embark on a solo career, only to recruit additional members until it was a full formed band. Alongside Tommy DeVito, Bob Gaudio and Nick Massi they would become The Four Seasons and they would eventually sign to Vee Jay Labels and release their first single Bermuda/Spanish Lace. But it would be their single Sherry that would place them firmly at the top of the charts and it remains a favourite to this day. They would then have various other ups and downs throughout their career and left a lasting impression on fans all over the world.

Further songs that they released included December 1963 (Oh What A Night), Walk Like a Man and My Eyes Adored You, amongst others, and a selection of them make it to the stage in Jersey Boys.

So make sure you pick up theatre tickets to witness Jersey Boys as it continues its run at the Prince Edward Theatre, where it is booking well into 2011.
